Well That Was A Disappointment

I’m back…from that “dream job” which was actually a nightmare. I won’t go into gritty details but I’ll give you a few highlights:

1. My floor was so quiet that sometimes, in the middle of the day, the overhead lights would dim because no motion had been detected. I would see the woman three cubes up from me wave her hand over head to turn them back on.

2. When my son got sick and I filed for FMLA my boss called me into her office and said “This isn’t retaliation for you filing for FMLA but…” and she began to clock my hours.

3. There were layoffs. Lots of layoffs. The entire workforce was stressed and the environment was hostile.

I survived the layoffs but eventually, after dealing with some more stressful and crazy work stuff, I decided to leave. So I’ve been at home putting my house back together, making up for missed time with the kids, and picking up freelance work. I’ve been shooting regularly and even did a three week stint in New England working on a production crew for a tv show.

So, things I learned from this experience:

1. Life is way too short to be miserable (and to spend 8 hours a day in a dark cube.)

2. Listen to your gut.

3. There’s always something better – you just have to look for it and work for it.

Glad to be back. Missed this blog! xo

Here are a few pics of what I would have missed if I had not listed to my gut and left that job. What have you been up to?

Travel…With or Without Kids

Teepee at El Cosmico in Marfa, Texas

I have the travel bug…BAD. Over the holidays my family and I drove to Texas and we made a point to take back roads and visit places we had never been, even it meant taking a few extra minutes (or hours) to get off the beaten path. Now we are home and all I can think of is doing again, but maybe just with the hubs. I get a tinge of guilt when I think of the possibility of sleeping in a teepee or in a floating hotel without my kids. Isn’t that what every kid wants – to sleep in a TEEPEE! But then again, doesn’t every mom want a night off and day to shop, look at art, and make art herself? Or is that just me?

The Aqua Lodges in Bocas del Toros

So I found my dream job. I get to look at photography all day. I scour websites and agencies looking for new photographers. I’m in love with my job. The only thing is now I miss taking pictures so much! Looking at other people’s work fills me with inspiration. So I’m gonna dust off the camera and go have a fun-filled shoot day. Until then, here’s a little Instagram love…

The light streaming through was so beautiful at that moment.

I can't resist a gray sky

Back to School…Back to Reality

So not only did summer kick my butt (don’t get me wrong – I had a blast but it was busy!) but the back to school season got me as well! Summer threw me for a loop and I still feel all jumbled and disorganized. I did manage to do a little back to school shopping and sent my 6 year old off on the first day in some very cute Olive Juice duds but we were so rushed that morning that my fuzzy iPhone photo of her going off to school isn’t going to cut it for this little blog!

Here’s one of my favorite moments from the summer.

Olympic Sneakers

Years ago, when the World Cup was held in France, I picked up the sweetest sneakers while backpacking in Europe. They were made by a company called Patrick especially for the World Cup. They had sneakers to represent every country! My first two picks were Italy and France (SOLD OUT) so I went with Jamaica. They were fun – yellow and green. I wore those shoes out as I traipsed through Europe that summer. I wore those shoes WAY past their life and was so sad when they could go on longer. I search for a comparable pair all the time. I found some during the last World Cup via another blog. Lo and behold, they were ONLY available in Europe. I found this pair today commemorating the 2012 Olympics. All I’ve been able to find is a patriotic shoe from New Balance. It’s a nice shoe, but I wonder, will I ever be able to replace my World Cup kicks?

I’ll Be Back…

I know I’ve been MIA for a while. I blame the summer. Everything is off. This finely tuned machine of a home is waaaay off. Bedtime has become lax, schedules have flown out the window, and life has become very “fly by the seat of your pants.” Add on to that a two week vacation through the east coast with the kids and you have one tired lady with no blogging power in her. School starts soon and I’ll get my blogging mojo back then (I hope!) Until then, I’ll continue this sporadic posting. For today, here’s a little summer eye candy…
